ALEX ELMESTAD: spatial research + sensory design
156 Shades of Grey
2006
Black and white paint, small workspace, table, chair, bookshelf, books, paper, pencil, mug, bottle, flowers, picture, and participant
Dimensions variable
A small workspace along with all of the objects was painted with black and white paint. A viewer was invited into the space and once the threshold was passed, the viewer became a participant. The participant, when viewed by another outsider became the only source of color in a space full of grey. Thus providing the term “grey area” with tangibility and physical definition through the use of color and space.
