Grey Romance
2006
3 channel video, 1 channel audio, headphones, fabrics, bed sheet, olfactory diffuser, vanilla scent, and vanilla cookies
Dimensions variable
Grey Romance was a three channel video installation. On the left screen was a person coughing up blood. On the right screen was two hands picking and peeling layers of skin off each other. Both screens were masked with an illuminated fabric column. The middle projection exhibited two people moving slowly and gently under sheets. The projection was presented on the same sheet (in a sculpted format) used to film the sequence. The projection was also visible on two planes: a soft transparent sheer fabric hanging from the ceiling and on the sculpted sheet form attached to the wall. The aroma of vanilla aphrodisiac filled the space and a viewer was also invited to consume a vanilla cookie. Headphones provided the listener an intimate experience of sound only they could hear. The audio was a mixture of internal bodily sounds of the two individuals filmed in the projected center video.
